ANIMAL OF THE FELINE FAMILY

TIGERS
Presented by Antonis Pantelaios, B2

The tiger (female) or the tiger (male) is a carnivorous mammal of the feline family, of which it is the largest and most powerful member. The species has the scientific name Panthera tigris, it responds exclusively to the Asian continent and is divided into 9 subspecies, 3 of which are considered extinct.
The tiger, one of the few animals of the so-called Charismatic Megafauna, is one of the most recognizable species in the world, with the characteristic pattern of vertical, dark streaks on a red-orange substrate on its upper surface and its lighter lower surface of her body. It is the largest species of "cat", reaching a total body length of up to 3.3 meters and weighing up to 306 kg. It has extremely large canines, the largest of the feline with a mill height of 74.5 to 90 mm.

HEALTHY ATTITUDE TOWARDS FOOD

Presented by Maria Tsantouli, B4

A balanced diet contains all the nutrients necessary for health, in the right amounts, and is achieved by consuming a variety of foods. Exaggeration, either in eating whole foods or in taking some of the nutrients, leads to health disorders. So for example, by overeating, we can lead to obesity. A person's daily energy needs depend on various parameters, including metabolic rate, age, sex and degree of physical activity. These energy needs are covered by 5 basic food groups, which are the following:
            • Bread, rice, cereals and pasta           • Fruit and vegetables             • Meat and fish                    • Dairy products           • Fats, oils and sweets

DREAMS

DREAMS

Presented by Valia Lavda, B2

  • What are dreams?
Dreams are hallucinations that occur during certain stages of sleep. They are basically stories and images that our mind creates while we sleep. Dreams can be vivid, frightening, thrilling, adventurous etc. In each case, they may cause a variety of emotions. Dreams can happen at any stage of sleep but they are the most vivid of all stages in REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep, when your brain is most active. Some experts claim that we dream at least 4 to 6 times every night.

FASHION NEWS

FASHION
                                                             Presented by Maria Chanioti, B4

Fashion is a popular aesthetic expression in a certain time and context, especially in clothing, footwear, lifestyle, accessories, makeup, hairstyle and body proportions. Whereas, a
trend often connotes a very specific aesthetic expression, and often lasting shorter than a season, fashion is a distinctive and industry--supported expression traditionally tied to the fashion season and collections. Style is an expression that lasts over many seasons, and is often connected to cultural movements and social markers, symbols, class and culture (ex. Baroque, Rococo, etc.). According to sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, fashion connotes “the latest fashion, the latest difference.”

ANIMAL CRUELTY

What Is Animal Cruelty and How Can We Stop it For Good?

Presented by Kleio Sarri, B5

Τι είναι η σκληρότητα των ζώων και πώς μπορούμε να την σταματήσουμε για πάντα;

Παρουσιάζει η Κλειώ Σαρρή, Β5

Animal cruelty is real and pervasive. It happens to all different types of animals and in every corner of the world. It’s also preventable and unnecessary.
Every 60 seconds, an animal gets abused. That’s inconceivable, especially in our advanced culture, but animal cruelty continues to occur all over the world.
Animal cruelty can take many different forms, as you’ll discover below, but the impact is always the same. A sentient animal capable of love and creating social relationships experience pain, fear, and desperation. And it needs to stop.
We live in a world that not only turns a blind eye to animal cruelty but condones it — whether through indifference or legislation. It’s legal to raise chickens in deplorable conditions for the sole purpose of slaughtering them later. If that isn’t animal cruelty, then what is?
The problem is that there aren’t enough people fighting for animal rights. If everyone started to look at animals — and not just dogs and cats — as fellow animals who share our planet, we would see far fewer cases of cruelty toward animals.
First, though, we have to spread awareness. What is animal cruelty? What does it look like? And how can we stop contributing to it?

ANIMAL LIFE

Dolphins
Presented by Marianna Barbari, B2

The dolphin is fish-shaped and reaches 2-3m. It weighs about 200 kg. It is covered by hard shiny leather, ash-green on the back and light silver on the belly. His head, which is rather small, joins the rest of the body without a neck and results in a pointed nose, resembling a bird's beak. His mouth is very large and is armed with 150 - 200 one centimeter long teeth each. Between his little eyes he has two holes, the blowers, the nostrils, which serve him breathing. It breathes with lungs and not with gills like fish. So he pulls his head out every 2 - 3 minutes above the surface of the water and breathes ambient air. It has two wings in the shape of a sickle, one on the back and one on the tail. Both these fins and the thick layer of fat underneath the skin that makes it lighter make dolphin skillful and fast in swimming. It can run 50 km per hour. That's why they call it a "sea horse". Dolphins are marine mammals. The life span of dolphins reaches an average of 70 years.
